Boulies NUBI Review — Worth it for Small Home Offices?
The challenge for many remote workers and compact-home-office owners is finding a chair that balances genuine ergonomic support with a small footprint. Bulky executive chairs can overwhelm a tiny room, while slender task chairs often skimp on adjustability and long-term comfort. The Boulies NUBI series promises a middle ground: compact design, ergonomic features (including seat depth adjustment and a weight-synchronized backrest), and materials meant to hold up to daily use. This review looks at how well the NUBI delivers on those promises in real-world use.
What problem does the NUBI solve?
- Maximizes comfort in limited spaces by combining a compact foot base and two size options (including a Lite version).
- Offers ergonomic adjustments — seat depth, recline with multi-lock, and height-adjustable armrests (NUBI model) — so users across different heights can achieve a healthier sitting posture.
- Provides durable, breathable upholstery intended for heavy daily use without the bulk of a traditional office chair.

Build quality & materials (Material & Quality)
The NUBI’s materials feel thoughtfully chosen for the price segment. The NUO fabric is similar to automotive seating material in texture — smooth, breathable, and resistant to piling. The cold-cured BioCurve foam gives an immediate impression of balanced support: not floppy, not rock-hard. The frame and base use engineering plastics with steel reinforcement in load-bearing areas; the base is compact but stable on a standard home-office floor. The gas lift is rated Class 3, which is reassuring for durability and consistent height adjustment.
Real-world experience — Pros & Cons
Pros
- Compact footprint: The smaller five-star base and tidy profile let the NUBI fit into tight corners and small desks without feeling cramped.
- Adjustability you’ll actually use: Seat depth adjustment and a multi-lock recline make it easy to dial in a comfortable position, which is especially helpful for different-height users sharing one chair.
- Comfortable cushion for long sessions: BioCurve foam distributes pressure evenly and remains supportive for typical 6–8 hour workdays.
- Breathable, durable fabric: The NUO fabric resists quick wear, feels pleasant against the skin, and breathes better than many budget polyesters.
- Stable lift & mechanisms: Class 3 gas lift and the weight-synchronized recline feel solid in daily use, not flimsy.
Cons
- Limited armrest functionality on Lite: The NUBI Lite’s focus on compactness and standing-desk compatibility means it lacks the adjustable armrests found on the full NUBI model.
- Plastic base aesthetic: While stable, the engineering-plastic base doesn’t have the premium look of metal alternatives.
- Casters are basic: Nylon casters roll fine on hard floors but may not be as smooth or quiet as higher-end polyurethane wheels on carpeted surfaces.
- Assembly required: Expect a 20–40 minute self-assembly with an Allen key; clear instructions but some parts are snug to align.
Comfort & long-term use
For daily desk work, the NUBI performs well. The combination of seat depth adjustment and the sculpted backrest reduces pressure at the seat edge and supports the lumbar curve. After several weeks of typical workdays (6–8 hours), the cushion retained shape and did not develop noticeable soft spots. Users expecting the “sink-in” feel of plush executive chairs may find the NUBI firmer, but that firmer profile supports better posture for extended periods.
Assembly & maintenance
- Assembly is straightforward: attach base, gas lift, seat, and backrest. Tools provided for basic build steps.
- Care: wipe-down fabric with a damp cloth and mild soap; avoid aggressive cleaners. The fabric’s durability rating suggests it will stand up to routine use.
- Warranty and returns: the 3-year limited warranty is a plus in this price segment, and the 14-day return window gives a short trial period to confirm fit.
Quick comparison
For context, here’s how the NUBI stacks up against two common alternatives in the compact ergonomic segment.
| vs. Autonomous ErgoChair (or similar) | NUBI is generally more compact and places emphasis on seat-depth adjustment and foam comfort. The Autonomous line often emphasizes mesh backs and more aggressive adjustability, but can have a larger footprint. |
| vs. HON or budget task chairs | NUBI typically offers higher-quality upholstery, a sculpted foam seat, and a weight-synchronized recline — features often missing from entry-level task chairs that prioritize price over ergonomics. |
Who is this product best suited for?
- People working in small apartments or compact home offices who need a supportive chair without a large footprint.
- Households with multiple users of different heights — the seat depth adjustment helps multiple people find a comfortable fit.
- Remote workers who prioritize sustained comfort for 6–8 hour workdays but don’t need top-tier executive finishes.
- Standing-desk users who want a perch-style option — the NUBI Lite offers a higher footstool accessory for that use case.
Verdict — Worth it?
The Boulies NUBI series hits a useful middle ground: it brings many ergonomic features (seat depth, weight-synchronized recline, breathable, durable fabric) into a compact package that suits smaller workspaces. It won’t replace high-end designer office chairs in terms of materials or premium finish, but it outperforms many budget task chairs on comfort and adjustability. If you need a space-saving chair with real ergonomic thought behind it, the NUBI is worth considering.
Strong ergonomics and compact design make the NUBI a smart choice for small-home offices and multi-user households — a practical, durable pick without premium price frills.

Since my wife stared working from home she’s been suffering with a low quality chair. We were looking around for a while until we came across the Boulies Master.
We thought that we would give it a go and have never looked back.
My wife uses the chair most days for long periods of time and I use it as a gaming chair. Neither of us can believe how comfy it is. It’s well built and arrived within a few days. It’s very supportive and feels like it’ll last for years. For the price, you can’t go wrong. Would definitely recommend it for either an office chair or a gaming chair.

Where to start, great communication from ordering to delivery. The chair took me around 35 minutes to assemble. Realised afterwards I should have built it upstairs as it would have been easier than having to carry it up the stairs once built as it’s solid [=quality]. Very nice to sit in super comfy “I’m 6 foot and 18 stones”. Looks better than I imagined, love the adjustable arm rests.

Great design, promptly dispatched and delivered, easy to assemble, and fully adjustable to make the perfect all-day desk chair. Of course, the bears are now refusing to move until they have their own Boulies Master!

Top build quality, only took 20 minutes to build. Comfort is good and after more use will become even better, also customer service is really good so far as I had a damaged plastic cover and they responded quick and have a replacement on the way.

The best gaming chair I have owned, I had been through all the usual suspects in the gaming chair sphere and never had a great experience, I am very broad shouldered and back, the Master Max is the 1st chair I have owned that fits my frame with ease, very comfortable and ergo features are superb, buy Boulies with confidence, I liked mine so much that I bought my daughter one for her Christmas!

I purchased the Master Max as I work from home and can spend up to 10 hours a day sat at a desk.
This chair enables me to do just that and in comfort throughout the day.
The lumbar support and options for seating height and tilt are second to none.

I’m 6ft 1 inch and 17 stone and I have had many chairs over the years, but I wish I had bought a Boulies Chair years ago as the very high spec build quality and fabric are far superior to the chairs I have bought in the past, The different seating positions are excellent and the whole chair is very sturdy and robust. Looks like I have many years of comfortable seating. Many thanks Boulies…

Very happy with my chair. The delivery only took only 2-3 days , it was easy to assemble (approx 20-30 mins)
The comfort on this chair is superb .
I was looking to buy a secretlabs chair but now I’m glad I didn’t.
I can only recommend the Elite series , for me it’s the perfect gaming/work chair. The pillows are a nice added bonus however I have no use for them as the chair fits me perfectly even though I’m a bit fat. 5’7″ 90 kg

I’d been looking for a decent quality, lumbar supporting office chair for work and something that didn’t break the bank. I’ve had the chair a few weeks now and I’m finding it very comfortable and supportive. It seems very well designed and built and was fairly easy to assemble with all the components and tools provided although the instructions could be a little clearer in regard to depicting the front and back.
