CCM JetSpeed FT8 Pro Refurbished Hockey Stick Review — Worth it?

Product: Right – CCM JetSpeed FT8 Pro Refurbished Hockey Stick – Senior – Red – Bubble Grip

Introduction — the problem this stick solves

Many competitive players are balancing three needs: a lightning-quick release, durable construction that survives heavy competitive use, and good value. Top-tier sticks can be costly, and lower-tier models often compromise either feel or durability. The CCM JetSpeed FT8 Pro (refurbished) aims to deliver near-elite performance—hybrid kick-point speed, modern shaft tech, and a reengineered blade—at a lower price point than a brand-new premium stick. For players who want pro-level features without paying full retail, this refurbished FT8 Pro is designed to be that middle ground.

Specifications & Materials

Material & Quality — what stands out

• ALUPLI composite shaft: thin aluminum layers bonded with carbon on the outer part for improved impact resistance compared with pure carbon shafts.
• Sigma ST2X spread-tow carbon: tighter carbon weave for manufacturing consistency and better tolerance to impacts.
• Helicoid layup: fiber orientation tweaked to increase durability around high-stress zones.
• Blade engineering: variable stiffness zones (soft heel, stiff toe) give a good balance of hands-on puck control and shot power.
• Fit & finish: refurbished units will show light cosmetic wear in some cases but are typically re-taped, inspected, and ready for heavy use.

Real-World Experience — Pros & Cons

What I liked (Pros)

• Quick, controlled release: The hybrid kick point is genuinely responsive. On snapshots and quick wristers it feels fast without sacrificing power on one-timers.
• Balanced build: The R-geometry shaft feels natural in the hands—rounded corners and slight concave sides reduce fatigue during long practices.
• Blade versatility: The softer heel improves puck feel and passing, while the stiffer toe adds measurable pop on shots—useful for both playmakers and snipers.
• Durability where it matters: ALUPLI layers and Sigma ST2X make the stick less prone to impact damage than some all-carbon sticks I’ve used.
• Good value as refurbished: If you want a premium spec stick without the full retail price, refurbished FT8 Pros often represent strong value with pro-level tech.

Where it falls short (Cons)

• Refurbished variability: Cosmetic scuffs, small paint chips or prior tape residue are possible; performance is usually unaffected, but aesthetics vary.
• Not the lightest in the segment: Elite ultralight models still edge it out for sheer weight savings—if minimal grams matter most, look elsewhere.
• Hybrid kick point trade-offs: Players who want a pure low-kick point for maximum toe-shots or a very stiff mid-kick for slap shots might prefer a more specialized stick.
• Availability of specific curves/sizes: Refurbished stock can be limited; your preferred flex/curve/length combination may not always be available.

In practice the FT8 Pro feels like a modern, game-ready stick—fast release, reliable construction and a blade that adapts to both passing and shooting duties.

Quick Comparison

Who is this best for?

• Competitive forwards and defensemen looking for a versatile stick that supports quick release and reliable shot power.
• Players who want premium construction (Helicoid, Sigma ST2X, ALUPLI) but prefer a refurbished price point.
• Skaters who value a comfortable shaft profile and improved puck feel—playmakers who pass and handle as much as they shoot.
• Budget-conscious athletes who still want pro-level features without paying full retail for a new model.

Buying notes & care

• Because this is a refurbished unit, inspect for any structural defects on delivery (delamination, deep gouges). Minor cosmetic marks are normal.
• Use proper tape and avoid excessive blade-impact on dasher board edges to extend blade life.
• If you favor a very specific flex/curve, check stock first—refurbished availability can be limited for uncommon combos.

Final verdict — Worth it?

The CCM JetSpeed FT8 Pro refurbished is worth considering if you want modern stick technology—hybrid kick point, ALUPLI-reinforced shaft, localized blade stiffness—without paying new-product prices. It strikes a strong balance between release speed and shot power, and the construction choices make it tougher in contact situations than some lighter, more fragile models. The main trade-offs are the cosmetic variability inherent to refurbished gear and the possibility that ultra-lightweight sticks will still outperform it in pure grams.

Bottom line: For competitive players seeking pro-level features and durability at a lower cost, the FT8 Pro refurbished is a smart pick. If you require the absolute lightest stick or a very specific new-model cosmetic, consider new alternatives.
